Pilton Infants' School

SEND

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am Stacey Pye and I am the SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator). I began this role in September 2017 after being a class teacher for 14 years, I have a wealth of teaching experience in key stage 1 and reception and I have completed the SENDCo Award. I currently teach one day a week in Squirrel Class.

The main responsibility of the SENDCo is to take the lead on implementing the best practice in meeting the needs of pupils with a range of SEND across school, taking in to account current initiatives and/or research. This includes monitoring the progress of pupils with SEND and supporting our teaching staff in maintaining a high standard of quality first provision for our children. The four key areas of my role are:

  • The IDENTIFICATION of children with special educational needs in the school
  • TRACKING and MONITORING the progress of children with SEND
  • Ensuring there is HIGH QUALITY TEACHING AND INTERVENTION for children with SEND
  • Developing the SEND PROVISION in the school further

I used to hold a weekly drop in session, however due to COVID restrictions I am not able to run these presently, however if you have any concerns please feel free to drop me an email, spye@piltoninfants.school and I will arrange phone call or virtual meeting at a time which suits you. I can offer you advice or refer you to the right professionals who can help you further. I recognise that as parents you know your children best and I welcome any information you can provide me with that can help your child in school.

I work in school on a Monday and Thursday you can contact me through the school office on these days.

Policies and Information

 Devon Local Offer

Devon County Council is committed to ensuring that all children and young people have a good start in life. Some children and young people have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and these differing needs mean varied levels of support may be required at different times. In Devon, we believe that children and young people with SEND should have the expectation to be part of their local community and to be included and educated alongside their peers. We aim to provide a range of support and opportunities to enable this to happen and these can be described as the ‘local offer’. This sets out what you can expect to be available to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities aged 0-25 along with Devon’s approach and underlying principles.

The Devon Local Offer can be found here: www.devon.gov.uk/send
